ETNU Transformation Triumphs Spotlight Patrick Leipziger for achieving 16 years of Sobriety. After Patrick had become sober, his incredible path led him to be a responsible man, employee, boyfriend, husband, stepfather, divorcee, and he legally adopted his stepdaughter.

Can you please share about your journey to Embrace the New You?

First, I had to create the new me, and that is a process that I continue every day. I strive to continue to grow one day at a time, and I would like to think that I am continuously evolving into a new version of me. I got sober when I was 21. I went through four years of hell and hurt everyone around me. I have embraced sobriety and have had the help of some great people. I try to give back to people beginning the same journey.

A lot has changed over the last 14+ years. I have been married, divorced, adopted a daughter, became a homeowner, went back and finished school, changed careers, and met some amazing people. I have also become the son and brother that I always wanted to be.

Where did you find your strength to get past your challenges?

Through God, recovery and the people in my life. That simple. Those three things are a requirement. The last thing I tried was the first thing that worked. I need God in my life or I will never sustain the life that I have been given.

What was your biggest obstacle/hurdle to overcome in your journey to Embrace the New You?

I would say getting sober. It was more difficult than going through the divorce or any other challenge that I faced. Once I surrendered, it became much easier than I ever expected. I lost the obsession.

How do you stay positive?

Prayer, meditation, talking to people when I feel challenged and just remember how blessed I am. Exercise also helps when I am feeling stressed or a lot of negative energy is running through me, which does happen.

What advice can you give to others who are also facing their own challenges/journeys?

Find people that you can lean on and can go to when you need it the most. Sometimes, we do require outside help (therapy, etc.). Also, I believe having a higher power is so valuable. Sometimes it is good to realize we are not the highest power in the universe. That is a lot of pressure. I would also suggest remembering we are always five minutes from success.

Which ETNU design (Sun, Turtle, Sunflower, Phoenix, Butterfly) resonates most with you? Why?

Sun. I believe the sunlight of the spirit cleanses our soul, and sometimes we need to remove the things that block us from the sunlight.

How has the mantra Embrace the New You – ETNU inspired you?

I literally view myself as a new person. I have lived two lives. I had to go through a complete psyche change or I would have never made it. The only thing I had to change was everything.

What is your favorite quality/strength about yourself after Embracing the New You?

The ability to feel emotions, share my emotions and let people see me without having a wall up, which can be uncomfortable but worth it.

What is a fun fact about you?

I have OCD (not necessarily fun) but I have learned to use it to my advantage. It has allowed me to learn valuable skills, especially around the house.
